Millis Garden Club Announces 2007 College Scholarship Recipient
Millis, MA. The Millis Garden Club is pleased to announce Emilio Tangerini is the recipient of MGC’s first Annual College Scholarship Award of $500. Mr. Tangerini, a graduate of St. Sebastian’s School, is the son of Charles and Laura Tangerini, owners of Spring Street Farm. Mr. Tangerini will attend Cornell University where he plans a major in the Agribusiness Management and Finance Program. In announcing the winner, Susan Vecchi, Chair of the MGC Scholarship Committee, added “Mr. Tangerini not only fulfilled all of the Committee’s criteria but also had an interesting slant having grown up on the family farm and wanting to learn more of the business side.” In his application, Mr. Tangerini stated: “Running a profitable farming business requires more than putting the plants in and watching them grow—it involves the collaboration of different business skills.”
The MGC college scholarship is awarded annually to a Millis senior who wishes to pursue a career in horticulture, agriculture, conservation, landscape architecture or design, botany or related field. Applicants should be a member in good standing of their graduating class with an overall B- average, a B average in Biology/Botany courses and an interest in gardening.
