Millis Garden Club Announces Recipient of the
2006 President’s Award

Millis, MA ….Annually in June and September, the Millis Garden Club recognizes a person or group who has consistently demonstrated civic commitment and dedication to our town or to our club. On June 21, the MGC named Christine Gavin as the recipient of the 2006 President’s Award, recognizing her valued contributions over the past year. The Award Ceremony took place at the club’s Annual June Garden Stroll where Awards Chairman Pat Thompson acknowledged

2006 President's AwardChris’ contributes to the growth of the organization. She was given a certificate of recognition and several gifts for her garden. In attendance were eighty guests, which included club members and supporters of MGC. In 2005, Kathy Doyle was the recipient of the MGC’s President’s Award.
Chris’ landscape design business is Gavin Studio, based in Millis. She is a graduate of the Harvard University’s Landscape Institute at The Arnold Arboretum. Chris is devoted to spending time helping people with their landscape design needs.  She will consult, photograph the site, draw plans and make plant recommendations, complete with a plant list and cost.  Chris has lived in Millis for over 20 years with her husband Bill, a graphic designer. Bill is also a member of the Millis Garden Club and has recently re-designed the club’s web site, www.millisgardenclub.org.

Also that evening, Awards Chairman Pat Thompson announced the recipient of the 2006 Annual MGC Civic Award, recognizing an individual or group who has contributed to civic beautification in our town. The Potpourri Garden Club of Millis has been named the recipient, having for years dedicated themselves to maintaining garden sites in our town. Kathleen Pueschel, President of PGC and member of the MGC, gratefully acknowledged the award on behalf of her club members. Their Award Ceremony will take place at MGC’s September 21, 2006 meeting with Potpourri Garden Club members in attendance. The Millis Garden Club wishes to acknowledge this revered club, which has been in existence since 1946. The members currently maintain the beautiful Butterfly Perennial Garden currently blooming on Veterans Memorial Grounds. Prior to this garden bed location, for years they maintained a site in front of Anne and Hope along Main Street. In 2005, the Annual MGC Civic Award was presented to Cheryl Prufer, a resident of Orchard Street. Cheryl has personally maintained the island at Exchange, Orchard and Middlesex for over five years.
