Millis Garden Club welcomes Spring with
Truly Low Maintenance Gardens

MILLIS.   On Wednesday, March 19 from 7-8 pm, the Millis Garden Club will sponsor an educational program on Truly Low Maintenance Gardens. Our presenter, Crickett Vlass, is a highly respected horticulturist and land planner employed by the Town of Wellesley Park Division. She will share methods and techniques that can help reduce unnecessary frustration and bring enjoyment to your beautification efforts whether it is at home or for a community project. She will talk about plant selection, soil preparation and design of municipal sites that are constantly subjected to drought, pollution and people pressures.  Employing strategies used in these difficult conditions can help make your own home gardens easier to maintain, healthier and less work  and more enjoyable. The program takes place at Veterans Memorial Building, Room 130, 900 Main Street, Millis. Registration begins at 6:30 pm, so come early and meet other gardening enthusiasts from the area. MGC programs are open to the public with a $5.00 donation at the door for non-members.

MGC sponsors educational programming on a monthly basis, from September – April. Our speakers are professionals in the industry and topics are diverse. Mark your calendars now for Wednesday, April 16, when horticulturist and herb specialist Seija Halva will present a one-hour program on "The Edible Garden." The program takes place at Veterans Memorial Building, Room 130, 900 Main Street, Millis. Registration begins at 6:30 pm. $5.00 donation at the door for non-members.

Plan now to join MGC and the Lions Club for Millis Beautification Day, scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 8:00 am – 12 noon. Starting at 7:30 am, Volunteers must visit MBD Headquarters located in the parking lot of Veterans Memorial Building where registration will take place.  Now in its fourth year, this community project focuses on cleaning up selected areas of town-owned land, plus a few pre-selected residential sites of elderly residents. We invite Millis community members, community groups and troops and businesses to Take Pride in Millis and volunteer some time to this worthy community event. Third-grade children and older may participate with parental supervision. Workgloves are a must for each volunteer.  Professional landscapers are needed to volunteer with equipment and expertise. MBD is co-sponsored by the Millis Garden Club and the Millis Lions Club. For more sponsorship information or to volunteer, please call Steve Campbell at (508) 376-5969.   This is a rain or shine event.
